This blog is specifically to discuss the effects of domestic violence and sexual violence on our society. I will delete spam and anything that doesn’t speak directly to the aforementioned content agenda. I am the CEO and Founder of a non-profit organization: The Mishantowash Foundation. The word Mishantowash comes from the Algonquin language and means: “Lift up thy voice” or “Speak Up.” After spending 14 years in the crminal justice system advocating for women and girls who had to deal with the complexities of this system, due to their vicitmization, I decided that I wanted to be on the education and empowerment side of these social issues. As a MSW, I am a consultant and trainer at judges conferences, probation and parole trainings, and at many women and girls organizations. I am preparing to leave tomorrow (11/14/12) for the Vision 2020 conference: Third Annual Vision 2020 National Congress: Collaborating for Change; an initiative started by Drexel University’s Women’s Leadership and Health Initiative. I will check in again after I return from the conference to let you know what I learned and what I will be doing with that information.
